About Physician Assistants

Our practice is fortunate to include several amazing PAs (Physician Assistants), who work closely with Dr. Turnipseed to provide care for our patients. PAs are highly-trained medical professionals who have completed a master’s degree (generally three academic years) that includes both rigorous medical education and more than 2,000 hours of clinical rotations before graduation. They are certified by the same medical board that licenses physicians, and are held to the same standard of care.

Like Psychiatrists, PAs have training and in general medical practice as well as the specific field of psychiatry. In partnership with Dr. Turnipseed, our PAs are able to provide the full spectrum of care our practice can offer, from skilled assessments to ordering and interpreting labs to prescribing medication. Equally important, they bring genuine compassion and a well-trained ear to every appointment, ensuring that our patients receive the highest possible quality of care.

We are very lucky to have a team of extremely skilled and caring PAs working closely with Dr. Turnipseed. Employing this collaborative-care model, we are able to greatly extend our reach, lowering wait-times for appointments and improving the quality of life for all of our patients.

Common Questions

Q. How do I use my insurance?

A. As every insurance plan varies on coverage it is recommended that you call your insurance plan and check your benefits for behavioral health prior to seeking treatment. Many insurance plans contract behavioral health through different carriers (ex: Blue Cross Blue Shield HMO plans are often managed by Magellan). If the provider you want to see (Click for list of Providers) takes your insurance please give us a call 512-707-1629 and we can assist you in scheduling an appointment.

Q. Do you accept Medicare or Medicaid?

A. We do not accept any type of Medicare or Medicaid. If you have a commercial plan in addition to Medicare or Medicaid we cannot bill either insurance company.

Q. How do I obtain my medical record?

A. All requests for medical records must be made in writing.  Requests for medical records not from the individual client must include a fully completed consent for release of information. Fees may be associated with requests.

Q. Will you complete disability paperwork?

A. You must discuss with your provider at a scheduled appointment the need for disability and the terms you both agree on. If the paperwork is completed by Dr. Turnipseed or one of the Physician Assistants there is a $50 fee for a disability claim.

Q. Is my information confidential?

A. We follow HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) guidelines. We do ask for consent of information between providers within our office if the client is a mutual client of our providers.  Everyone in our practice, staff included, have completed training on confidentiality.  Many of our records are electronic and are encrypted through Valant. If you choose to email your provider outside of the Valant portal (i.e. Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail) we cannot guarantee encryption.
